Witch’s Tools Handout - Dowsing
Dowsing is one the most ancient future seeing devices employed by Cunning folks and witches.
The two most common methods are pendulum dowsing and rod dowsing.
This is easy to try, and takes dedication and work to master.
PENDULUM
Historically many methods used - sieve and sheers, book and key, pin and hair. Today we make a pendulum from any single chain hanging object. Often made from metal or wood or crystal.
RODS
Y Rods – Traditional dowsing rods, made from wood – Hazel or witch-hazel in the US. Fruiting trees and willow are also frequently used. Must be live wood. Held in a particular manner.
L Rods – L shaped metal rods, often copper, with handles that allow the rod to swing freely. Good for showing direction of movement of water, ley lines.
To begin to dowse, clear your mind, allow yourself to go into a light reverie. use the alpha countdown opposite if you wish to.
Hold the tool lightly, and begin to “entrain it” by thinking or visualising what you are looking for.
A pendulum will swing a certain way for YES and NO. Alternatively train it to use the dowsing charts below.
